Oxford English Dictionary
Welcome! We are four living creatures that co-exist together on this precious planet we call home. Originally from Manchester, we journeyed south and found a home within an intentional community in the alternative town of Totnes, Devon, which is nestled between Dartmoor National Park and the SW Coast, continuously embracing us in breathtaking beauty. Collectively we are a family made up of me, Nicola; the mother, the blogger, the book lover, the foodie. Rich; the dad, the comedian, the ecological entrepreneur and the energy force of the group. Our two daughters; Willow & Wren, both free-thinking wildlings that so effortlessly exist in each moment as their most raw authentic selves. Not forgetting Rudd, the fifth member of our family; our van, our home on wheels, our vehicle to simplicity.
Journaling has hugely benefitted my mental health and sharing my writing digitally is an extension of that. I’m using this space to consciously document the chapters of my life as they unfold; from the mundane musings of mothering to the rebellious act of unschooling, community living, activism, conscious eating and daring to live slower and simpler. Writing on this blog allows me to step further away from social media which I am increasingly finding to be too fast paced (so much scrolling), too disconnected (I want conversations, not likes!) and too temporary (what’s with disappearing stories?!). I intend to write regularly enough to keep the energy flowing, keeping it seasonal and relevant. I hope I can reach some other living creatures that resonate with my words, find comfort in my honesty and take joy in getting to know me a little more as I let my thoughts, questions, opinions and ideas trickle down through my fingers, dance with the letters on my keypad and find their way to your screen.
